Buying Property: Working with Tradesmen and Agents

Welcome to my blog. My name is Darren. I own several rental properties in Western Australia. Once I had made the purchases, I discovered that several of the properties needed extensive work before I could rent them to tenants, so I had to hire construction contractors, plumbers, electricians, waste disposal experts and roofing experts to make sure the homes were in top condition. Once I had repaired the buildings, I contacted a letting agent who put them on the market for me. I learnt a lot from working with some many different businesses so I decided to start this blog to share everything I know.

3 Reasons Why Composite Decking Is the Best Choice for Your Beachfront Home

by Louella Brewer

One of the best ways to spruce up your beach house is by adding a new deck. While traditional wooden decking may be one of the most popular options, composite decking is actually a far better choice for coastal properties. Composite decking, one of the newer options on the market, is made from a combination of plastic and wood that is designed to mimic the look of natural wood. Here are three reasons why you should choose it for your beachfront home.

1. It's resistant to water damage

One of the biggest problems with using wooden decking on beachfront homes is that wood is highly susceptible to water damage. Composite decking, on the other hand, has built-in resistance to salt water, humidity, and general coastal moisture. From the spray of the sea to your wet feet after a day in the ocean, composite decking can stand up to moisture without rotting, staining, or facing any damage at all. On top of this, composite decking is also relatively strong and durable, making it more resistant to other types of damage too (such as physical impact and overall wear and tear).

2. You won't slip or fall

Another key benefit of composite decking is its safety. When you're walking onto your deck with wet feet, or when the humidity makes your decking wet, the last thing you want is to slip and fall on the moisture. While you may think decking made from plastic would be slippery, composite decking is actually designed to be slip-resistant. While the wood component acts as a stabiliser, the rubbery plastic is textured to provide additional grip, which is crucial when you're in a moist area. This also makes composite decking especially beneficial when you have young children or seniors staying at your beach house.

3. It's low maintenance

Last but not least, composite decking is easy to clean and maintain. Unlike wood, which has to be thoroughly cleaned and repeatedly resealed to prevent rot, composite decking rarely needs more than sweeping and hosing to keep it in good condition. You won't even need any special cleaning products to maintain it. You can deep-clean your decking with a hose or jet-wash just a few times a year. The only other routine maintenance you'll want to keep up with is sweeping away excess water from your decking when it rains heavily (or when you return home drenched) to ensure safety and stain resistance. All in all, you'll spend a lot more time enjoying the seaside than you will on deck cleaning.
