Buying Property: Working with Tradesmen and Agents

Welcome to my blog. My name is Darren. I own several rental properties in Western Australia. Once I had made the purchases, I discovered that several of the properties needed extensive work before I could rent them to tenants, so I had to hire construction contractors, plumbers, electricians, waste disposal experts and roofing experts to make sure the homes were in top condition. Once I had repaired the buildings, I contacted a letting agent who put them on the market for me. I learnt a lot from working with some many different businesses so I decided to start this blog to share everything I know.

Two Types Of New Year Maintenance For Your Boat Jetty

by Louella Brewer

It is the middle of summer and the calendar has turned the page into a new year. Summertime is when a boat jetty gets the most use, and this also means that some mid-summer maintenance is in order to make sure the jetty is safe and water-worthy enough to make it past the second half of the season. As someone who has not had a jetty for long, there are two main points you should be concerned about as the middle of summer passes.

Algae Build Up

Because your jetty is getting plenty of use right now, there is also plenty of water being splashed over the top of the jetty. Left to its own devices, excess water can lead to algae growth on the jetty surface. Algae is a total nuisance because not only is it aesthetically annoying to look at, but it can also cause slips and falls while people are walking over it.

The fastest way to get algae off your jetty deck is to blast it off with a power washer. However, if you don't have a spare afternoon up your sleeve to take care of this, at least give the algae a brush away with hot soapy water and a stiff broom. Algae removal makes the jetty deck a lot safer to walk on until you can give it a thorough clean at the end of the summer season.

Broken Decking

With plenty of foot traffic moving across the jetty at this time of year, it is not unusual for parts to break. Deck wood can rot and weaken over time, and handrails can become loose from the constant weight of people pushing against them.

Because there is still a lot of summer left in the season, it is important that you have breakages fixed as soon as possible. If you do not have the necessary knowledge or tools to repair the broken areas, arrange for a jetty specialist to take care of the repairs for you. You should not have people walking on your jetty when it needs repairs, as you are compromising their safety. Any accident that occurs on your jetty can lead to a claim being made against your public liability insurance policy.

Taking care of these two tasks now makes sure your jetty will be safe for the rest of the hot summer days that lie ahead. It does not take long to take care of these chores, and it brings peace of mind once you do so.
